The new Dumbleton Parish Council

The new Dumbleton Parish Council

An extensive Community Governance Review (CGR) carried out by Tewkesbury Borough Council in 2021 looked at current governance structures across the borough and examined how well they serve local democracy.

Residents were given a chance to have their say with a consultation between June and September 2021.

The proposals and feedback were presented to the Borough Council in February 2022 before the final recommendations were published in May 2022.

One of the CGR proposals was the formation of two new parishes – Dumbleton and Wormington. This proposal was approved by Tewkesbury Borough Council on 17 May 2022 and the formal order for the creation of the new parishes was made on 2 February 2023.

The new Dumbleton parish will comprise Dumbleton and Great Washbourne, and its formation will create a new Dumbleton Parish Council. The new Council will be made up of five councillors (reduced from seven councillors for the outgoing Council) and will retain its existing budget (just over £18k for the financial year).

Wormington parish will comprise Wormington and will be run by a parish meeting.

The existing Dumbleton Parish Council will be dissolved at 23:59 on 31 March 2023 and the new Dumbleton Parish Council will be created from 00:00 on 1 April 2023.

Interim arrangements

As there are local elections within six weeks of the creation of the new Council, the currently elected Councillors cannot serve and only the Parish Clerk can serve. As a result of this, interim arrangements have been organised by Tewkesbury Borough Council. Isbourne ward Borough Councillor Mel Gore will be acting on behalf of the new Dumbleton Parish Council from 1 April to 9 May 2023. Click here for full details of these interim arrangements

First meeting

Following the local elections, the duly elected councillors for Dumbleton Parish Council will take their place from 9 May 2023 and the first meeting of the new Council takes place on 17 May 2023 – this will also be the AGM and Annual Parish Meeting.
